eRAMS: Accelerating enhancements at Liverpool Street Station

Using a seamless end-to-end works approval system built in low-code for a major renovation project

The challenge

Liverpool Street Station, the busiest station in the UK with 80.4 million journeys, is set to undergo a major transformation. This transformation is part of a £1.5 billion regeneration project for Network Rail, aimed at addressing chronic accessibility, capacity, and overcrowding issues. The project will enhance London’s status as a world-class city by creating a vibrant, inclusive, and green landmark destination.

Netcall and its electronic Risk Assessment Methodology Statement (eRAMS) application is making a key contribution to this transformation.

The role of Netcall and eRAMS

Netcall has developed the eRAMS application to streamline the approval process for work requests at Liverpool Street Station.  Prior to the eRAMS application, the process for getting approval for booking maintenance engineers was cumbersome, arduous and lacked transparency. It was difficult for everyone using it: clients requesting work, contractors carrying out work and assessors tracking requests.

The eRAMS application was built on Liberty Create, our low-code platform, to aid rapid development and iteratation.

“eRAMS has provided Network Rail with a platform that enables transparency for all the system users, slashed application times and enabled prompt outputs. The system does all the checking, ensuring our front-line teams have up to date information to allow safe access to our premises. Our business colleagues have a tool that gives them insight into progress and ownership of the status of their applications, with system reminders when updates are required.”

The solution

“The eRAMS application has been a game-changer for Liverpool
Street Station. It has not only streamlined the approval process but also
provided transparency for all users of the system. The application has reduced the time taken to approve an eRAMS request from hours to just 20 minutes.”

The result

  • It’s now easier to ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards, which minimises the impact on Network Rail workers and the public
  • Dramatically reduced the workload for station operations
  • Streamlined the approval process
  • Provided transparency for all users of the system
  • Reduced the time taken to approve an eRAMS request from hours to just 20 minutes
  • Played a crucial role in enhancing the station’s operations and passenger experience.
A crucial role in enhancing operations and transformation

The collaboration between Network Rail and Netcall, and the implementation of the eRAMS application, is playing a crucial role in enhancing the station’s operations and passenger experience.

Carrying out complex building transformation works and minimising disruption to passengers and operations is made possible by streamlining necessary safety and compliance processes to reduce delays.

Intelligently Automating GDPR Compliance

With all the privacy controls already in place to ensure adherence to the regulations, but with very manual processes – managed across emails, forms and excel spreadsheets and other disparate systems, the Data Protection Officer (DPO) wanted to reduce complexity, enforce a consistent process and reduce the compliance impact on workloads across the business.
